Official press release:
Local songwriter releases a new album.

Wellsboro Pennsylvania native, Scott Turner, has written a new collection of songs to be released April 1st (2024). The title of the album is “Cheap Guitar”, carried over from song one of the album by the same title. Turner's newest album will be available on all of the major streaming platforms including Spotify, Amazon music, YouTube music, iTunes and more. Cheap guitar will also be available in the form of a physical CD, available at live performances, local retailers and by request via Scott's Facebook Messenger.

Turner commented, “ most people know me as a songwriter and an acoustic guitar player. My last several albums have been full production albums with acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, orchestration and such. I thought it would be nice to take a step back to where the roots of my music were born, with my acoustic guitar and my voice.”

Turner's minimalistic approach to his latest album has created an honest homespun flavor. His tongue and cheek humor sets the tone and his voice and acoustic guitar carry the tunes. Turner jokes about his inexpensive guitar lyrically singing, “I write the song, but it tells the tale. I'm playing it today because I bought it on sale.” The second song of the album, “Fishing Forever”, is a heartfelt humorous story of Scott ascending into heaven with his dog, and spending the rest of eternity fishing. He sings of how the angels will help him, “they'll bait my hook and pull my snags.”

The music displays Turner's recognizable voice and guitar styles. The styles range from his trademark rhythmic strumming and cross picking to his warm and folky fingerpicking. The songs were recorded as live studio takes at his Wellsboro PA base recording facility. He comments about the production saying, “it was a real challenge playing each of these songs end to end, just like a live performance. Generally instruments and vocals are tracked in the studio, but not this time, just live vocal and acoustic guitar. I really like how honest the songs feel.”

Song three on the album is entitled “Memory”. It takes a rock and roll feel and tells a story of an aging musician. The song couldn't be more honest or fun. Turner sings, “I used to be a rocker in my prime, now I sound like a nursery rhyme.” The humor and clever lyrics continue throughout the album. Other songs include, “Today is a Gift”, “I Got My Groove On”, “Foot in My Mouth”, “Biggest Cow”, “I Like Dogs. Better”, and more.

Scott comments, “I was so busy doing other things besides music, like getting my commercial drone license, that I didn't think I was going to record an album this year. Things settled in about a month ago, winter tends to slow things down a bit, and I found myself compelled to start writing. I'm so glad I did, I absolutely love this collection of songs.”
